TOWN PROFILE: Ridgewood in Bergen County, NJ

Best shopping areas in Bergen County have changed over the years.  When I was young we used to go to Fort Lee, and then all the stores moved to Englewood, and though many are still there, it is really Ridgewood, NJ that has held it’s own and continued to grow all this time.  It has a lively downtown with boutique shopping, and great dining. And, more importantly, Ridgewood is simply a lovely old town with lots to explore.  If nothing else, just drive around and appreciate all the old houses.  They’re beautiful.

If you do go for shopping, check out one of my favorite stores growing up - Marcia’s Attic.  Marcia started by selling trendy children’s clothes in an apartment in Englewood in the 70s and now has four different clothing stores for children and women.

You can easily get here by train which drops you off right downtown.  If you’re coming form NYC, It’ll take you just 20 - 35 minutes depending on which train you catch from Secaucus.

If you go this coming weekend you can hit up the harvest fair at Old Paramus Reformed Church on November 7th.

TOWN PROFILE: Shopping in Englewood, NJ

Englewood, Nj is rich in history and boutique shops. When you feel a shopping craze come on and you don’t want to go to the mall or pay NYC taxes, consider Englewood, just over the George Washington Bridge.

And, definitely have lunch or dinner at the original Baumgart’s Cafe. Some classic favorites are the tuna sandwich, ice cream sunday, and cold sesame noodles (not necessarily all in the same sitting). I know, sounds crazy, but you’ll just have to trust me.

Shops are closed on Sunday as is the case in all Bergen County towns.
