SHOP PROFILE: Michelle’s Pies in Norwalk, CT
Because the food network may not be your background noise like it is mine, I am sharing the news that Michelle’s Pies in Norwalk, CT are apparently beyond delicious. I’m talking Throwdown with Bobby Flay delicious. Literally. I have to give credit where credit is due for this local find. Regardless, Michelle’s Pies is what beelocal is all about. And, though I didn’t just happen upon it like I like to do, I’m still sold. Maybe it’s Michelle’s spunky ‘tude on the show. Either way, just another excuse to go out to Norwalk. I’d go just for pie. Really, I would.

Stew Leonard’s Grill at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, CT
http://www.stewleonards.com/index.cfm
The town of Nowalk and SoNo (South Norwalk) is totally worth a visit for the stores, restaurants and parks. Take the New Haven line from Grand Central Station to either South Norwalk or East Norwalk depending on your plan. I mention this now because if you go before October 1st, and have access to a ride, you can take a break from Main Street to stop by the Stew Leonard’s Grill in Calf Pasture Beach for a fresh grilled lunch. Throw on that sweatshirt, get cozy with a burger and milkshake, and say your goodbyes to summer. A Stew Leonard’s Grill on the beach? So, it’s pricey and already Fall. Who cares? It’s Stew Leonards!
The original Stew Leonard’s flagship store is in Norwalk as well. Most people don’t consider going to a supermarket a fun activity but Stew Leonard’s is not really a supermarket. I feel blasphemous calling it such at all. Starting as a dairy farm in 1921, it has now grown to four gigantic “farmer’s markets”. If you’re not CT bound but still curious, stop by the one in Yonkers. Don’t get frightened off by the mooing cows and singing vegies. Go hungry and sample everything!
